This Is What Bobbi Brown Eats For Glowing Skin

The icon shared her recipe for "beauty bowls."

Bobbi Brown just launched a lifestyle shop, but that's not all the beauty mogul has been up to. In her just-released book Beauty From The Inside Out, Bobbi shares tips for leading a holistically healthy lifestyle—and that includes proper skincare, as well as workouts and a diet that's rich in "power foods." The Lookbook recently caught up with the icon, and got some scoop on getting beautiful for summer. We also invited ourselves over to lunch at Bobbi's house. It's worth a shot, right?

The Lookbook: This is your ninth book, but it's the first one that includes so many delicious recipes. What inspired the new direction?

Bobbi Brown: Making good lifestyle choices—like eating healthy food—has always been the cornerstone of my beauty philosophy. As you get older, it becomes even more important to remember that what you put inside your body determines how will you look on the outside.

The Lookbook: How has your own approach to eating evolved, as you become more and more interested in wellness?

Bobbi Brown: Over the years I have become more conscious of what I put into my body, and how what I eat makes me look and feel. Everyone's journey to eating a healthy and balanced diet is different. Many times, its gradual progression like mine, making little changes at a time.

The Lookbook: We can live with little changes! What types of food should we start to avoid—and start eating more of—if we want glowing skin?

Bobbi Brown: [Avoid] processed foods, salt, soda, sugar and white flour. Eating lots of nutrient-rich foods, however, will make you instantly look better. Dark leafy greens like kale, alfalfa, and spinach are wonderful for your skin as they support and increase collagen production. Avocados are loaded with healthy fat, fiber, and antioxidants which make your skin glow. Coconut oil is rich in good saturated fats that are great for health and skin, and also reduce inflammation.

The Lookbook: Goodbye for now, cupcakes. Food aside, how has your commitment to wellness influenced your approach to makeup and beauty?

Bobbi Brown: You need less makeup when you're taking care of yourself. When you eat well, drink lots of water, workout and get enough rest, it shows.

The Lookbook: You write a lot about confidence in your book. Tell us: what's the secret recipe for confidence? How did you achieve yours?

Bobbi Brown: It took a while, we are all a work in progress. The most confident—and attractive—women I know are the ones who are comfortable in their own skin. They make no apologies for who they are. They own it.

The Lookbook: We're coming to your house for a beauty-enhancing lunch. What are you making?

Bobbi Brown: My basic beauty bowl. The ultimate beauty-food lunch combines protein, healthy fats, and veggies for a perfectly balanced bowl. Mix up the vegetables based on what’s in season, and make it your go-to lunch. Its got lentils, quinoa, sweet potato, cherry tomatoes, kale, watermelon radish, avocado, pumpkin seeds, hemp hearts and lemon with a delcious tahini dressing.
